Juliette Amelia
Collins
d. Dec 19, 2014
Augusta , GA Juliette Amelia Collins of Longleaf Court entered into rest on Friday, December 19, 2014, leaving behind a loving family, good friends, and two naughty little dogs. At least once a week, Julie would excitedly say, Let me tell you about my brand new buddy. Strangers were immediately drawn to her sincerity and sense of fun. And they would soon discover that she could talk for hours nonstop, chatting happily with shopkeepers, waitresses, telemarketers, and random passersby. Generations ago, Julie sang her way through school in choirs and clubs while learning to become a teacher. During her few years in first-grade classrooms, the children who touched her the most were boys and girls who struggled mightily before blossoming into readers. In the early 1960s, Julie started a new life chapter and headed for Alaska. As one of Americas first black stewardesses, she flew Wien Air out of Fairbanks, dressed in winter gear and mukluk boots, crossing the frozen tundra with Inuit villagers, business adventurers, and even occasional reindeer. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Haley Dunn (George, Jr.) of Metro Atlanta; her sisters, Victoria Manning of Augusta, Bertell Thompson (Lonnie, Sr.) of Petersburg, VA, and Lucretia Collins of New York, NY; and a host of nieces and nephews. Her family gives thanks to the compassionate staff of Georgia Regents Medical Center and many dear friends, including Alvin Blount of Augusta. In observance of Julies wishes, there will be no local memorial service. Those who mourn will remember her informally with prayers, laughter, gratitude, and great love. In lieu of flowers, please honor Julies memory by giving time or treasure to a charity of your choice. Williams Funeral Home, 1765 Martin Luther King Blvd. Sign the guestbook at AugustaChronicle
