Obituary

On Thursday afternoon, October 31, 2024, God's quiet voice called Clemmie G. Bullock to his heavenly mansion. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 11 a.m. at First Metropolitan Baptist Church. Interment will be at Bellevue Memorial Garden. The son of Clem and Mayteen Bullock, he was born in Darbun (Walthall County), Mississippi. Growing up with his 8 siblings, worship was a focus of the family, and at an early age he was baptized at the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He was an active member, attending Sunday School, special programs, and revivals as part of his growing with Christ. Clemmie attended the public schools in Walthall County and graduated Salutatorian from Pinegrove High School. During his public-school matriculation, mornings before school were often spent picking cotton, and as he matured in high school, he drove the school bus. Following graduation from high school and at the age of 19, Clemmie voluntarily joined the US Army and served with distinction. He was honorably discharged as Corporal (E-4) in September 1961. As a part of the great migration in 1966, Clemmie, a young man determined to advance in life, relocated to Pontiac, Michigan, eventually settling in Flint, Michigan. During this time, he began his 33.8 years of committed service at General Motors Truck and Bus. While at General Motors, he served as a committee man with the UAW Union Local 594 working to provide the best for himself and his fellow workers. He retired on November 1, 1999. In 2013, after experiencing Augusta's snowless winters, he and his wife relocated to Augusta, Georgia. Clemmie's love for his family was his greatest accomplishment. A beloved husband, he took pride in supporting his family. He was more than a father to his children; he was a teacher, a leader, voice of reason, and the example of unconditional love. He taught all of his children and grandchildren how to ride bikes. Clemmie cherished the holidays as a time to have all his family around and prove he was truly the grill master. He joked to the end believing no one could out do him on the grill. He also spent time enjoying the changing seasons with daily walks, meticulously manicuring his lawn, fishing for relaxation and fun in the outdoors, and conquering the most difficult Sudoku puzzles. When not enjoying these activities, he could be found in the garage or on the patio listening to his favorite music. Clemmie valued education, had a strong work ethic, and a generous giving spirit to make a difference in the lives of others. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Oliver Bullock, Willie Bullock, and Ernest Pittman; sisters, Dorothy Tody and Essie Cubia; daughter, Cynthia Bullock, and great granddaughter, Royalty Alexander. Clemmie's memory is indelible in the heart of his wife of forty years, Hazel Bullock, and he is cherished by his children: Barbara Harvey of Warren, MI, Clementine "Tina" Mattison of Dacula, GA, Lorraine (Konah) Terry of Leesburg, VA, Yonisha (Trevor) Wimberly, Evans, GA, Karen (Sterlyn) Reynolds of Dacula, GA, Kevin (Kandi) Fortenberry of Bay City, MI and Yolanda Fortenberry of Snellville, GA; sisters: Lucille (John) Jefferson of Seaside, CA, Helen (Joe) Abram of Grayson, GA, and Peggy Otis of Jackson, MI; 25 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; bonus daughter, Edna (Booker) Maxwell, Edmonds, OK.
