Obituary

Mr. John T. Hills Jr. entered into rest on Friday, May 1, 2026. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at B. A. Williams Memorial Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Garden.

John, an only child, was raised in Millen, Georgia where he attended the Jenkin County school system and a graduate of Burgess-Landrum High School (Class of 1964). John was a member of Hurricane Branch Baptist Church. John was later employed with King Mills Textile where he worked as a mechanic for 30+ years. On October 3, 1974, John was married to the late Helen Tanksley Hills. This union brought together a blended family of five children and later the birth of two additional sons.

John spent his spare time bowling. His passion for bowling gained him a few trophies. When he wasn't bowling, you could find him behind the wheel of his blue Javelin. After retirement, John enjoyed tending to his yard and sitting on the porch laughing and conversating with whoever stopped by.

John was preceded in death by his parents Rosa Lee and John Tom Hills Sr., his son, Larry Hills, his son-in-law, Charles Page, daughter in law, Cheryl Knight Hills and his beloved wife, Helen Hills.

John is survived by his sons, John T. Hills III, Reginald T. Hills, Lanier (Carrie) Gross; daughters, Sheila Page, Pamela Tanksley, Sharon (Maurice) Thompkins; devoted cousins, Lillie Mosely, Douglas Hills, John (Val) Hills, Mary; brother-in-law Robert Frank Johnson; sister-in-law, Josephine Tanksley; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish his memories. There will be a viewing on Friday from 1-5 p.m.
