Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Tabernacle Baptist Church at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Millicent W. Mazyck, affectionately known as "Millie", a beloved educator, musician, and community leader, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, dedication, and love. Born and raised in Camden, South Carolina, Millie was the daughter of Johnny and Ethell Williams. From an early age, she demonstrated a passion for learning and a deep love for music, traits that would shape her life and career. Millie's academic journey began at Bennett College, where she cultivated her talents before continuing on to the University of South Carolina, where she earned her Master's degree in Music. Armed with her degrees, Millicent began her lifelong career as a music educator, dedicating over 30 years to the students of George P. Butler High School in Augusta, Georgia. In 1978, Millie founded the school's now-legendary show choir, which became renowned for its dynamic performances and musical excellence. Under her leadership, the choir quickly gained a stellar reputation, performing at churches, schools, and numerous events. Their talent and hard work earned them countless awards, including top honors at regional, state, and national competitions. The choir also received numerous "Best of Class" trophies and superior ratings, showcasing Millie's skill as both a teacher and a mentor. Her dedication to her students was reflected in her being named Teacher of the Year at George P. Butler High School in 1986. Millie left an indelible mark on the lives of many, inspiring generations of students with her passion for music and commitment to excellence. Millie was not only an outstanding teacher but also a devout Christian who used her musical gifts to serve her faith community. For many years, she was the music minister at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, where her talent enriched worship services and touched countless hearts. In addition to her professional and spiritual work, Millie was an active member of Top Ladies of Distinction and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., organizations through which she dedicated herself to uplifting others and giving back to her community. Millie's greatest joy was her family. She was married to Dr. Willie R. Mazyck, with whom she shared a wonderful life. Together, they raised two sons, Willie R. Mazyck, Jr. (Jasmine) and Rufus Mazyck, who inherited their mother's values of hard work, dedication, and love of family. She was a proud grandmother to Anderson, William, Kendall, and Kennedy, who were the lights of her life. Millie's influence will continue to be felt through the many lives she touched as an educator, mentor, and servant leader. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her legacy of love, faith, and excellence will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Willie R. Mazyck Sr.; Children, Willie R. (Jasmine) Mazyck, Rufus O. Mazyck; grandchildren, Anderson Mazyck, William Mazyck, Kendall Mazyck, Kennedy Mazyck and a host of other relatives and friend. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MRB_m-VpprrqEyv-V4qKYwEWrvzmjJXQ/view?usp=drive_link Williams Funeral Home, 2945 Old Tobacco Road, Hephzibah.
