Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 11:00 at Greater Young Zion Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Ms. Washington may be viewed on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Peggy Ann Washington "Pakidu" was born on August 17, 1946 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia to the late Jack Evander Walker and the late Rosa Lee Eubanks Walker. Peggy attended Lucy C. Laney High School. As a teen to young adult, she worked tirelessly with her father at Mr. Jack's store in Hyde Park in South Augusta. Her father had purchased a lot for her in Hyde Park where she built her home and laid a firm foundation. She lived there for over 35 years. When the Hyde Park community was mandated to relocate, she decided to move in with her daughter and son-in-law and their family in Snellville, Georgia. Peggy believed in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She attended various services to continue to strengthen her faith walk. She was a faithful employee for TOTE (Transportation of The Elderly) for twenty years. She absolutely loved the elderly. She would visit and deliver meals regularly to the elderly after work and on weekends. After the closing of TOTE, she became a dedicated bus attendant for the Richmond County Board of Education where she later retired after serving over ten years. Peggy was the most genuine person you could ever meet. She was a beautiful person inside and out who spoke from her heart. She loved people dearly and would give them the clothes off her back. When she saw a need, she tried to fill the need. As a young girl, she would sneak kids who were in need into the house to feed and clothe them. Her great love for children (especially teenage boys) led her to enter into the foster care system at the young age of 24. She nurtured, loved and welcomed well over 90 children into her home. As a result Peggy was awarded Foster Parent of the Year in 1989 in recognition for her outstanding contributions to the children and the foster care program in the state of Georgia from the Foster Parents Association of Georgia by Governor Joe Frank Harris. Peggy leaves to cherish her memories: dedicated brothers, Isaac (Alice) Williams of Augusta, GA and Clifford "Big Cliff" Brown of Augusta, GA; her devoted daughter, Annette (Terry) McMullen of Snellville, GA; devoted sons, Tim (Jean) Walker of Daphne, AL, David Haynes of Augusta, GA, and a host of other loving sons and daughters throughout the US; loving grandchildren, Meagan "Chubby Cheeks" McMullen of Huntsville, AL and TJ "Mr. T." McMullen of Snellville, GA, Tiffany (Marcus) Shaw of Augusta, GA, JaMario Walker of Augusta, GA, DeRico Glover of Taylors, SC, David (Wanda) Haynes Jr., Anderson, SC; and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren throughout the US; loving niece, Kristi Washington of Snellville, Ga and loving nephew, Travis (Domonique) Washington of Augusta, GA and a very special great niece, Tatiana "Butterfly" Washington of Snellville, GA; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
