Rosa B.
Crockett
Aug 22, 1936 — May 6, 2026
With profound love and deep respect, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Rosa Bell Settles Crockett, a woman of God defined by unwavering grace, strength, and dignity. Mrs. Crockett transitioned from this earthly life to her eternal reward on May 6, 2026, at Brentwood Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Cumming Grove Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Mausoleum.
Born on August 22, 1936, to the late Reverend Samuel Settles and the late Mrs. Amanda (Floyd) Settles, Rosa's life was rooted in the firm foundation of faith, integrity, and service. She carried herself with an elegance and humility that left an indelible mark on every soul she encountered. At an early age, she accepted Christ and was a devoted member of Glovers Chapel Baptist Church in Abbeville, SC.
Lovingly known as "Momma Crockett," she was raised in Abbeville County and educated in Greenwood County before moving to Augusta, Georgia, after graduation. Upon her arrival in Augusta, she united with Cumming Grove Baptist Church. She later entered holy matrimony with the late Reverend Dr. W.J. Crockett, and together they made their home in Augusta for 58 years.
A devoted First Lady, she faithfully stood beside her husband in ministry, offering love, wisdom, and unwavering support at Mount Zion C.M.E. Church, Second Mount Moriah, Piney Grove, Cobb Grove, Fielding Spring, and Philip Grove Baptist Churches. She walked in her calling with a signature style, always dressing sharp and carrying herself with poise. She was famously known for her collection of beautiful "First Lady" hats, which she wore as a crown of her devotion and grace.
Beyond her role in the church, she was a professional of many talents, working as a receptionist for Williams Funeral Home and Pilgrim Life Insurance Company. Driven by a desire to serve others, she furthered her education at Augusta Tech, becoming a Certified Phlebotomy Technician. She served at Eisenhower Hospital and eventually retired from the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center.
Mrs. Crockett was a "praying woman" whose deep love for God was reflected in her commitment to her community and her servant's heart. She leaves behind a rich legacy of love, cherished memories of laughter, and the constant reminder of the goodness of God. While we miss her presence, we smile remembering her favorite parting words:
"WE ARE OUT AND GONE!"
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Rev. Dr. W.J. Crockett; her parents, Rev. Samuel Settles and Mrs. Amanda (Floyd) Settles; her brother, James Andrew Settles; her daughter, Wanda Crockett Danforth; and son-in-law, Freddie Harris.
She is survived by her children, Linda Harris, Walter B. (Sue) Crockett, Patrick A. Crockett, Sr.; son-in-law, Michael Danforth; grandchildren, Thaddeus, Raymond, Jessie, Michelle, Patrick Jr., Tashica, Sharena, Desmond, and Deondra; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of loving cousins, godchildren, and special friends whom she held close to her heart. There will be a viewing on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 1-5 p.m. at the funeral home.
