About Us

In 1947, Benjamin A. "Bennie" Williams graduated from the Atlanta College of Mortuary Science. After serving in World War II as part of the American Graves Registration in the Pacific, he returned to Augusta, becoming a licensed funeral director and embalmer at a local funeral home, Dent’s Undertaking Establishment, for over 20 years. In 1969, he formed a partnership, Williams and Dotson, which was later dissolved.

On November 14, 1975, a groundbreaking ceremony marked the construction of Augusta's newest and most modern funeral home at Milledgeville Road and Chestnut Street—a significant development for the Black community after the previous building was destroyed during the 1970 riots.

Williams Funeral Home, Inc., owned and operated by Bennie A. Williams and his wife, Mildred, was dedicated on July 11, 1976. This $250,000 facility consisted of two buildings: one with a 250-seat chapel and the other with offices, a casket selection room, a preparation room, and four viewing rooms.

In 1988, the youngest daughter, Lisa, joined the family business, followed by the eldest daughter, Renata, in 1985. Both daughters graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service.

After twenty years of successfully serving the Augusta community, Bennie pursued his vision of expanding service outside the inner city area. A site was chosen in the Hephzibah area, and construction was begun on a second location, but he did not live to see it to completion.

On May 2, 2002, a dedication was held for a larger, newly constructed facility at 2945 Old Tobacco Road, Hephzibah. The new $300,000 structure was composed of a 350-seat capacity chapel, four viewing rooms, a conference room, a casket selection room, a four-car carport area, and a 2-car garage.

Following the death of Bennie Williams in 2001, Mildred Williams became the owner until her death in 2009 when her daughters Lisa, Mignon and Renata became owners.

Since 1976, the staff has grown from four to twenty employees, from one location to two. With the mission of continuing to serve the growing needs of families, an on-site crematory was erected and opened at the Hephzibah location in August 2025.

The legacy continues with "Our Service A Sacred Trust."
